In a media release sent by Sasktel, they are letting customers know that SaskTel crews have arrived on site to begin repairing the damaged fibre transport infrastructure near McLennan Lake.

Due to the complexity and nature of the required repairs, SaskTel anticipates that areas of Northern Saskatchewan may temporarily lose Internet, Wireless, and/or Landline (SaskTel Home and Business Phone) services.

Once repairs are complete all services should be restored, however, there currently is no estimated time of repair.

Further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.

Sasktel has sent out a release alerting to service disruption in Saskatchewan’s north.

The wildfire burning near McLennan Lake has caused damage to SaskTel’s fibre transport infrastructure resulting in significant network congestion in parts of Northern Saskatchewan.

The network congestion is impacting SaskTel Internet, Wireless, and Landline (SaskTel Home and Business Phone) services in and around several communities including, but not limited to Brabant Lake, Sucker Lake, Southend, Key Lake, Cigar Lake, Collins Bay, Wollaston Lake, Black Lake, Stony Rapids, and Fond du Lac.

SaskTel crews are currently unable to access and begin repairing the damaged infrastructure due to the wildfire. Until the infrastructure can be repaired, customers in the impacted areas may experience slower than usual data services, dropped phone calls, and discontinued data sessions. To help alleviate congestion on the network, customers in and around the impacted areas are strongly encouraged to limit their use of SaskTel services as much as possible.

SaskTel crews will be dispatched to begin repairing the damaged infrastructure as soon as it is safe to access the area.
