A new agreement signed this week is looking to find more opportunities to include First Nation’s in the province’s power grid.

SaskPower and the First Nations Resource Centre for Excellence signed the agreement at the First Nations energy forum in Saskatoon.

The agreement means SaskPower and the First Nations Resource Centre of Excellence will work together to identify potential areas for First Nations involvement in the energy sector.

“This MOU signals First Nations’ openness to prosperity through partnerships and co-development of opportunities and outlines a pathway forward for working together,” said Sheldon Wuttunee, President and CEO of the Saskatchewan First Nations Natural Resource Centre of Excellence. “Opportunities to support the planning and build out of the power system in Saskatchewan will transform our communities, by growing our economic participation and revitalizing relationships between First Nations and the province.”

The agreement is said to focus on engagement, workforce development, supply chain, energy development, and Indigenous equity participation.
