Buckley Belanger, who spent nearly two decades in provincial politics as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Saskatchewan, will be heading to Ottawa.

Belanger was elected as the Member of Parliament for the Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River riding on Monday night’s federal election.

Belanger will represent the party who formed government on Monday night as Mark Carney’s Liberals were elected as the nation’s next government during the election as well.

The northern Saskatchewan politician was an NDP MLA from 1995-2024 and was recently elected as the mayor of Ile a la Crosse in the municipal election this past November.

Belanger will be sworn in at the House of Commons once parliament resumes after the election.

The newly elected MP spoke with MBC News following his win.
