Identities of victims released

The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan RCMP and in collaboration with the families of the deceased victims, are releasing the names of the people who died as a result of the homicides on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation on February 4, 2025.

Their identities are being released to help further the investigation. We share our condolences with the families and community members impacted by this tragedy.

The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Family Liaison team and Victim Services continue to communicate with the victim’s families.

With this in mind and to assist ongoing reporting, families of the deceased have provided photographs of their loved ones which they have permitted us to share with news partners. They are the highest quality photographs we have available. The families have asked for privacy during this difficult time.

The deceased victims are identified as:

34-year-old Tracey Hotomani of Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation

44-year-old Sheldon Quewezance of Zagime Anishinabek

47-year-old Shauna Fay of Indian Head

51-year-old Terry Jack of Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation

 

 

Update on Suspicious Deaths on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation

Investigation has determined the homicide victims were injured by firearm.

The investigation continues, which includes investigators speaking with individuals who may have relevant information to share, as well as evidence analysis. Neighbourhood canvasses have also occurred on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation.

At this time no arrests have been made in relation to the deaths of the four victims.

“We are actively investigating this tragedy to piece together the details of what happened – this takes time. We must be mindful that releasing more specific details could impact the overall investigation,” says Inspector Ashley St. Germaine, Senior Investigative Officer of Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes. “I reiterate: if you have information to share about this investigation, please speak directly with the police so it can be examined thoroughly. Rumours can spread quickly. Please remember the loss the victim’s loved ones have experienced. Misinformation can impact an investigation by rerouting investigators in false directions. Investigations must follow evidence and our investigators are trained to do just that.”

The Saskatchewan RCMP continues to investigate two incidents that occurred in southeast Saskatchewan on February 4, 2025.

Update on suspicious deaths on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation:

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigators remain on the scene of the suspicious deaths of four individuals on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation. Residents will continue to notice an increased police presence in relation to the investigation.

We are investigating the deaths as homicides. Initial investigation suggests the residence may have been targeted.

We are working with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service to formally identify the victims and are still limited in what we are able to share. What we are able to confirm is that the victims are two adult males and two adult females.

Though formal identification is pending, our family liaison team is providing investigational updates to loved ones we believe may be impacted by these homicides. We are also actively referring them to Victim Services for support.

Update on pointing firearm incident on Zagime Anishinabek

As noted early this morning, Keagan Panipekeesick was arrested by Regina Police Service at a residence on Mathieu Crescent in Regina.

He has been charged with one count of pointing a firearm, Section 87(2), Criminal Code and one count of possession of a firearm contrary to order, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code.

He will appear before a Justice of the Peace today; details of his first court appearance are not yet available.

Two other individuals were also taken into custody at the residence. Officers continue to investigate their involvement, if any, with the firearm pointing incident.

At this time, investigators are examining into whether the firearm pointing incident and the homicides are connected. We are unable to confirm a link at this time.

We are committed to continuing to provide updates as they become available. If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, we will notify the public.


So far there has been now word on charges after four people were found dead on Tuesday on the Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation.

The bodies of four people were found in a home on the reserve east of Regina.

RCMP say the deaths are considered suspicious.

The names of the victims and cause of death have not been released.

RCMP later received reports of a man pointing a gun at people on Zagime Anishinabek, about 95 kilometres away.

That suspect was later arrested in Regina.

Leaders from nearby Cowessess First Nation would issue an emergency warning to members to stay inside as the matter was unfolding.

It is not known if the two incidents are related.

In the meantime, the RCMP says they are monitoring the situation and will are assessing if a dangerous persons alert is required.

The public is asked to remain vigilant and not pickup hitchhikers while this matter continues to be investigated.
