Yesterday afternoon Saskatchewan RCMP advised the public of increased police presence on Pelican Lake First Nation. People were asked to avoid the areas where officers were present and to follow any police direction provided. 

This afternoon Mounties provided more details saying that Spiritwood RCMP received a report of an assault on Pelican Lake First Nation at around 6p.m. on Monday.  

When officers responded they said they located an adult male suffering from serious injuries. The victim who has been identified as 24-year-old Ryikis Bill was declared deceased at the scene by EMS.  

20-year-old Zelda Bill was arrested at the scene and now faces a manslaughter charge. Mounties stated that Ryikis and Zelda were known to each other and were both from Pelican Lake First Nation.  

As a result of continued investigation, Zelda Bill has been charged with manslaughter and was remanded into custody.  She was scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court today. 

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes has taken over the investigation and continues to investigate the incident.
