The Saskatchewan Indigenous Music Association (SIMA) is ramping up for the second annual Saskatchewan Music Awards, which is taking place on October 12, 2024, at the E. A. Rawlinson Centre in Prince Albert.
SIMA announced the nominees for this years music awards, and one of them stood out because of his age.
John Jr. Charles is nominated for the Youth Awards and is well known in the community of Stanley Mission because he likes to get up on the stage and put on a show, sometimes with the Too Easy Band.
If you have ever been to any of the Stanley Mission Gatherings or events, you may already know John Jr. Charles from his performances in the community.
He is an eight-year-old electric guitar player who is in grade three.
MBC had the chance to talk with John Jr. and asked how he felt after finding out he was nominated for an award.
“Um, okay,” said John Jr.
John Jr. is learning to play electric guitar from his Grampa and has been playing since 2023.
He is the youngest nominee in this year music awards.
