A statue dedicated to the Royal Regina Rifles made a stop at the Peepeekisis Cree Nation Sunday. On June 6, 1944 the Royal Regina Rifles landed on Juno Beach and that included many members of the Peepeekisis Cree Nation. The statue is on a short tour and will be installed permanently at Juno Beach France on June 6,  on the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

“We felt very proud that they would share this with us and had asked that the statue come to our community and be shown to our people, all the families of the veterans will come out that day and come together in a good way,” said Headman Allan Bird.

Many veterans came from Peepeekisis and they are happy to share this event to honour their ancestors in their community.

“We have so many veterans in our community, that’s why we call our hall The Veteran’s Hall and we have all there pictures on the walls, we have their courageousness, their commitment, their sacrifice of what they moved forward and what they did for us as Peepeekisis Cree Nation,” says Headman Allan Bird.

The community is proud to see their veterans recognized and they are very proud of their ancestors. The community is so proud that they have their own statue that honours the Peepeekisis veterans.
