A former Chief of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations has been appointed board chair of the First Nations Bank of Canada.

The First Nations Bank announced Friday morning that Perry Bellegarde has been appointed chairperson of it’s board of directors.

Bellegarde, from Little Black Bear First Nation in Saskatchewan, also spent six years as Assembly of First Nations National Chief after his time with the FSIN.

A spokesperson for the First Nations Bank says Bellegarde’s leadership will help guide the bank in a period of “tremendous growth.”
