The crowning of a new National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations will have to wait until Thursday.

Delegates will begin voting at 11AM Eastern time, as Cindy Woodhouse, nor David Pratt secured the required 60 percent of votes from registered delegates.

In round-six, Woodhouse took 234 of 415 votes for 50.8 percent, while Pratt totalled 181 or 39.3 percent of delegated votes.

The election was postponed shortly before midnight as the convention center, hosting the AFN Special Chiefs Assembly, closed.

Results from a seventh-round of voting are expected at 12:45 PM Eastern.

UPDATE: 9:33PM.

Chiefs and proxies at the Assembly of First Nations Special Assembly are going to vote in a sixth-round for National Chief.

Cindy Woodhouse from Manitoba took 231 of 411 votes cast for 50.1 percent to total delegates registered.

Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Vice Chief David Pratt secured 179 votes or 38.8 percent. There has been no indication of a concession by either candidate.

A winner is declared by securing 60 percent of registered delegates. 14 less people voted this time compared to round five, with only 89 percent of voters casting a ballot.

Voting will continue with results expected at 11:45 PM Eastern.

UPDATE: 7:53PM.

A fifth round of voting is needed to decide who will be the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.

Cindy Woodhouse from Manitoba is leading, following the fourth round results with 237 out of 423 votes for 51.4 percent of registered participants.

Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Vice Chief David Pratt garnered 185 votes or 40.1 percent.

A candidate must get 60 percent of the 461 registered Chiefs and proxies. Results are expected at 10:15 PM Eastern.

UPDATE 6:34PM.

The election for National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations is down to two candidates.

After the third round of voting, Cindy Woodhouse of Manitoba continues to lead. She secured 221 of 407 ballots cast.

David Pratt, Vice Chief of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is second with 142 votes and Sheila North was dropped from the ballot with 44 votes. She addressed the Assembly, throwing her support to Pratt.

A candidate must secure 60 percent of the vote from registered delegates. Elections officials said 461 Chiefs and proxies are registered to vote, despite only 407 votes cast.

Results of this round of voting are expected 8:45 PM Eastern.


UPDATE: 5:03 PM

A third-round of voting for the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations is now underway.

None of the remaining four candidates met the 60 percent threshold to secure the AFN’s top job.

Cindy Woodhouse of Manitoba got 190 votes or 41.2 percent.

Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Vice Chief David Pratt obtained 139 votes or 30.2 percent of the vote.

Sheila North is third at 57 and Dean Sayers was fourth with 46.

Sayers was dropped from the ballot. Results from this round of voting are expected to be announced at 7:15 PM Eastern time.

A former Saskatchewan Chief has been dropped from the ballot for National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.

After the first-round of voting Wednesday, Reginald Bellerose secured 34 votes or 7.4 percent of ballots cast.

That is the second-fewest ahead of Craig Makinaw, who was also dropped from the ballot.

Cindy Woodhouse from Manitoba is the leader at 162 votes or 35 percent.

Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Vice-Chief David Pratt sits second at 118 votes or 25.6 percent of the ballots.

444 of 461 registered delegates cast ballots in round-one with spoiled ballots.

Round-Two voting is currently underway with results expected at 5:45 Eastern Time.
