Ocean Man First Nation will be receiving Mineral Rights from the province for land currently under negotiation with the federal government.

The First Nation is currently undertaking their land claims settlement with Ottawa.

The province announced Thursday morning, that 156 acres of Crown mineral rights will be transferred to the First Nation once the land is given reserve status.

“These transfers are part of Saskatchewan’s continued commitment to work with our partners to transfer land and minerals to reserve status, directly supporting the growth of First Nation communities,” Minister Responsible for First Nations, Métis and Northern Affairs Don McMorris said in a media release announcing the mineral rights transfer.

These mineral rights transfers were made available following an agreement with Canada and the province over Specific Claims Settlements.

Any First Nation wanting to receive mineral rights for land under negotiation with Ottawa needs to submit a written request to the Government of Saskatchewan.
