RCMP are trying to determine the identity of a body found on Big Island Lake Cree Nation.

The remains were found this past Friday at the communities landfill.

The Pierceland RCMP detachment secured the body and conducted and extensive search of the area, which was completed by RCMP Major Crimes. RCMP say the this search produced negative results.

A forensic autopsy was completed on the remains on Monday and the results ruled out the possibility of the remains belonging to any recent missing persons from the area.

The RCMP Historical Case Unit has now taken over the file and authorities say they will continue to investigate to determine the identity of the person found.

Anyone who may have any information on this matter is asked to call the Pierceland RCMP Detachment (306) 839-3330 or your local police service.
