A public inquest will be held to look into the death of Vance Bellegarde.

39-year-old Bellegarde was found unresponsive in his cell at the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre on August 6, 2020.

Emergency Medical Services personnel responded, but resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, and Bellegarde was pronounced deceased.

An inquest is held to look into the death of an individual while at a jail or correctional facility, unless the coroner is satisfied that the person’s death was due to natural causes and was not preventable.

The coroner, William Davern, will preside over the inquest.

The public inquest for Bellegarde will be held February 6–10, 2023, at the Holiday Inn and Suites at 1800 Prince of Wales Drive in Regina.
