The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations has terminated the employment of its Sports Director Corey O’Soup.

The organization said the firing comes after O’Soup mispronounced the name of a youth hockey team recently, but also inappropriate workplace harassment.

“FSIN Leadership and staff are outraged by a recent report of inappropriate harassment at the workplace,” said Vice-Chief Heather Bear in a news release. “The betrayal of the people we serve is reprehensible.”

Earlier this month, O’Soup called the U9 Beardy’s Blackhawks the Beardy’s “Beerhawks,” while presenting the team with its championship banner and trophy during a youth hockey tournament in Regina.

The Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation filed a formal complaint with the FSIN over O’Soup’s comments. He would later apologize in a Facebook video claiming the mispronunciation of the youth hockey team was not intentional.

The FSIN said it would “robustly investigate” allegations of harassment.
