The Whitecap Dakota First Nation said it is the first in the province to provide its households and businesses with full fibre-optic broadband internet services.

More than 200 households, the band office, health centre and business park now have access to significantly increased internet speed.

“As we have all learned with the COVID-19 pandemic, access to quality internet services is essential to our families, our schools, our businesses and future opportunities on reserve,” said Chief Darcy Bear.

Beyond the immediate benefits of faster internet speeds, SaskTel’s infiNET network provides the First Nation with a platform that can grow to meet the evolving needs for bandwidth well into the future.

The Government of Canada contributed $1,136,250 and the Government of Saskatchewan contributed $378,750 toward the project.
