Cowessess First Nation will receive funding for the community’s gravesite reclamation project.

Cowessess chief Cadmus Delorme and federal minister Marc Miller announced today the over $700,000 in funds that will be given over a three-year period.

The funding will be used for research, commemorative markers, electronic mapping of all graves and a monument.

Delorme said in a statement, “the end goal is to identify a name for each unmarked grave.”

This funding comes after 751 unmarked graves were found on the site of the former Marieval Residential School.
