The New Democrats have named their candidate in Northern Saskatchewan for the upcoming federal election.
Harmonie King, a Metis resident of Meadow Lake was nominated Sunday for Denesthé-Missinippi-Churchill River.
“There is a lot I want to do to help people in my community if I get the chance,” said King. “I am especially focused on getting better mental health services for people in rural and remote areas.”
King works in social services and contested for the NDP in the 2020 provincial election.
“People in Desenthé – Missinippi-Churchill River have been facing some difficult challenges over the past few months and will have more to overcome once the COVID-19 pandemic is over,” King said. “We have a lot of work to do to build back our economy once this is all over.”
Buckley Belanger is seeking the Liberal nomination, while incumbent Gary Vidal will represent the Conservatives.
It’s expected that Prime Minister Trudeau will call an election Sunday.
