RCMP say they have arrested a 23-year-old Wahpeton First Nation man after a firearm was pulled on an officer Thursday.

Police say the incident happened around 12:30 p.m. when the officer approached a parked vehicle, that was believed to be stolen, behind a business in Debden.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and was arrested a few hours later in the community.

Mounties say the Debden Public School was temporarily locked down as a safety precaution.

Kyle Standing is charged with assault of a police officer, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant had previously been issued for Standing for a parole violation.

He is next due in court July 21.
