A Saskatoon MLA said she was angry to learn that her grandchildren were recently subjected to racism.

In a May 11 tweet, Saskatoon Centre MLA Betty Nippi-Albright detailed the encounter.

“My lil grandchildren were walking home from school with their dad like they do everyday after school, a Caucasian male yelled and called my lil grandchildren ‘little F’en savages,'” wrote Nippi-Albright.

She explained that the children’s father tried to correct the person, but the experience left the kids terrified.

“Their dad could have reported this to police; however, nothing would have been done. I feel so angry because racism is so entrenched in our province,” she explained.

Nippi-Albright from Kinistin Saulteaux Nation, is the opposition critic for First Nations and Métis Relations, Truth and Reconciliation and has been vocal regarding racism in the province since becoming elected.

“No child should ever have to experience racist treatment by anyone.”
