For the second straight year, the SJHL will not crown a champion.

The league announced today that the 2020-21 season has been cancelled. The SJHL says a return to play plan was not approved by the province.

“A decision by Saskatchewan government and health has been made on the submissions that have been before them, unfortunately the SJHL will not be allowed to return to play,” said the SJHL in a statement today.

“In part, the current conditions of COVID-19 in the province of Saskatchewan do not appear to allow a return to play now or in the next few weeks.”

The SJHL also says its focus will now be on returning to the ice in September and having a complete season.

Meantime, the La Ronge Ice Wolves were off to a 4-1 start this season before the campaign was paused.

The 2020 playoffs were cut short due to the pandemic.
