The Cowessess First Nation is getting $3.4 million in provincial and federal funds to develop it’s Awasis Solar Project southeast of Regina.

The project, expected to be completed later this year will provide 10 MW of solar energy to the grid.

“Cowessess First Nation strives to be an economic self-sustaining partner in the growth of the province and Country,” Cowessess First Nation Chief Cadmus Delorme said.  “This goal becomes a reality when the plan includes investment from the government.  As the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action provide us all direction to bridge the gap, Cowessess First Nation will help this province and country in renewable energy to assure our seven generations ahead may have a sustainable place to call home.”

As part of the contribution, the Rural Municipality of Edenwold will get $3.5 million from Ottawa to implement the solar project.

The Sturgeon Lake First Nation will get $300,000 to install modern playground equipment.

24 recreation and green infrastructures province-wide will share $53 million in combined funding.
