Ava Bear is the newly elected chief of the Muskoday First Nation.

Bear edged out her next closest challenger, Randy Bear, 143 to 128 votes in Friday’s election.

A total of six candidates ran for chief.

Herman Crain, who was elected chief in 2019, opted not to run again.

Ava Bear is a former band councillor and served a two-year term as a vice-chief of the Saskatoon Tribal Council in the early 1990’s.

Beryl Bear, Clayton Bear, Delbert Bear, Merle Crain and Tracy Bear were also elected to council.

Beryl Bear garnered the most votes with 175.

A total of 23 candidates ran for the five council positions.
