The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League paused the 2020-21 season in November following tighter COVID-19 restrictions introduced by the province and now the league has provided an update on the campaign.

“As we continue to have discussions with the Saskatchewan government and Saskatchewan health on the restart of the 2020-21 season, the health and safety of our players, staff and volunteers is of the outmost importance,” said the league in a statement.

“The decisions on the dates of returning to play will probably not be determined until after January 15, 2021. Some factors that will determine the restart are the number of cases and the number of people hospitalized due to COVID-19.”

The league also said it is adjusting the SJHL Bantam Draft date.

“With all of hockey being delayed in Saskatchewan, the SJHL draft that is scheduled for the first part of June, will be held at a later date, which is yet to be determined,” said the SJHL. “With all the uncertainty, the struggle of the unknown has been difficult for all involved.”

The La Ronge Ice Wolves last played a game Nov. 20 at home when they beat the Melfort Mustangs 3-1. The Ice Wolves are 4-1 on the season.
