Golf Saskatchewan is helping grow the sport in northern Saskatchewan.

The provincial organization has donated a golf kit to Chief Moses Ratt School in Sucker River.

“What it does is that it just creates some interest in the game, it gets kids swinging clubs inside of a gym,” said Devin Bernatchez, who is a councillor with the Sucker River Band. “It’s not real golf balls, they’re kind of enlarged clubs and bigger balls. There’s a putter and a little putting mechanism. It’s just building those fundamental skills at the elementary level.”

Bernatchez says Golf Saskatchewan is a good resource for schools.

“I encourage all schools in the north to get engaged with Golf Saskatchewan,” said Bernatchez. “They have some great resources that teachers and gym teachers can use indoors, in the winter to get kids interested in golf.”
