The Canoe Lake Cree First Nation is entering an indefinite lockdown as it addresses increasing cases of COVID-19.

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority declared the outbreak Tuesday evening as there are increasing confirmed cases with evidence of community transmission.

The First Nation said shift workers, essential employees and medical travel, provided with the correct documentation may be allowed to enter and leave the community.

The lockdown starts at 6PM tonight. The First Nation reported 34 active cases Tuesday, including two in Jans Bay and four in Cole Bay.

Health officials recommend preventative measures to help slow the spread of the virus.
