The Peepeekisis Cree Nation said it settled its File Hills Colony Specific Claim with the federal government for $150 million.

“The claim involves compensation for the mismanagement by Canada of Peepeekisis reserve lands. The Settlement Agreement will allow the Nation to make significant community investments,” said a letter from leadership.

“The settlement agreement has the potential to improve the lives of all community members.”

A trust is expected to be created, where the First Nation has the ability to money to it.

The agreement was reached November 6 and a ratification vote is scheduled for December 11.

“Leadership of the Peepeekisis Cree Nation believe that this Settlement Agreement is fair and reasonable and that community members should vote to accept it.”
