Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Vice Chief David Pratt said he has COVID-19.

“I received a phone call and notification from the Saskatchewan Health Authority that I did test positive for COVID-19,” Pratt said in a Facebook video.

“The symptoms that I experienced over the weekend, was a severe head cold, which has improved yesterday and today. I also have had some underlying health conditions that were a little bit of a concern. But overall, my symptoms have been mild.”

There are approximately 3150 active cases in the province, with nearly 1000 in Saskatoon.

Pratt’s announcement Thursday evening comes a day before added restrictions on sports and gatherings took effect.

“I did everything I could this last little while from wearing the masks. Everyone knows I’ve been preaching masks all fall and all summer, washing my hands with the hand sanitizer, limiting my social interactions in my social circle. And I still contracted the virus,” Pratt explained. “It’s important that each of you double down on your efforts to protect yourselves and your families.”

The province reported three additional deaths Thursday, 299 new infections, 108 in hospital and 178 recoveries. The provincial death toll stands at 40.

“Since experiencing symptoms on the weekend, I have been in self isolation and monitoring myself and will be in quarantine for the foreseeable future until such a time as I received notice from the Saskatchewan Health Authority that I have made it through without being transmissible to other people,” Pratt said.
