After dropping their opening pre-season matchup Thursday in Flin Flon, the La Ronge Ice Wolves responded with a 4-2 victory over the Bombers Saturday night at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.

“Both games actually, I thought we had a good work ethic,” said Ice Wolves Associate Coach Gaelan Patterson. “I think that we got into a little trouble with the penalties, so we got to keep composed out there. Obviously, too many power plays is going to get us in trouble. Other than that, I think we worked pretty hard, we played some stingy defence, tough to play against us in our own end and it was good to see it worked out the right way here tonight.”

Holden Knights, Logan Holm, Walker Jerome and Brandon Della Paolera did the scoring for the Ice Wolves. Adam McNutt had two assists for the Ice Wolves off the back end.

Jerome notched the winning goal just 24 seconds into the third period.

“I think our line, we take every chance to finish a check and I think that’s kind of the role we play,” said Jerome, a first-year forward with the Ice Wolves. “We got the puck out on that play and little bit of a fluke, it ended up going through the goalie there, and a little tap in for me, but it was super exciting for my first SJHL goal.”

Xavier Cannon made 31 saves for the win in the La Ronge net, while Jared Thompson turned away 29 shots in a losing cause. Hayden Clayton and Jaeden Mercier supplied the goals for Flin Flon.

With the win, the Ice Wolves improved to 1-1 in SJHL pre-season action.

La Ronge will be looking for its second straight win on Wednesday evening when they welcome the Bombers to town, with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m.
