RCMP say a 45-year-old man died after a firearms incident at a residence in Stanley Mission on the weekend.

Police say they were called to the residence Saturday afternoon to perform a wellness check.

When they arrived, Mounties say they heard the sound of a gun being loaded and retreated.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, officers were able to gain access to the home and a male surrendered.

Inside the home, they found the body of Jamie Leroy Roberts.

RCMP say the homicide occurred before they were contacted.

Twenty-six-year-old Kane Leonard Roberts has been charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a dead body.

He has been remanded in custody and appeared in court Monday.

Roberts’ next scheduled court appearance is Oct. 26 in La Ronge.

An autopsy was also performed by the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service in Saskatoon on Monday.
