The Métis Nation-Saskatchewan has launched a new program to help cancer patients with travel costs for treatment.

The organization says the Cancer Transportation Pilot Program is based on feedback received at its health and well-being engagement sessions.

In a press release, the MN-S says it is aware cancer treatment is only available in the province’s major urban centres and members no longer have access to a public bus service.

It says applicants will have to provide proof of MNS citizenship, residence, have access to vehicle and driver and contact information of attending clinic in order to be eligible for the program.

Gas and parking costs are eligible for reimbursement.
