The La Ronge Ice Wolves have announced that forward Booker Chacalias has committed to Plymouth State University, which is an NCAA Division III hockey program in Plymouth, NH.

“I want to thank La Ronge for welcoming me with open arms after the trade that sent me there mid-season, said Chacalias. “From the moment I arrived, the players, coaching staff, community and my incredible billet family made me feel like I had been there the entire season. I learned a lot about my character as a person and a player, as I faced a lot of adversity with an injury that set me back almost half the season. In La Ronge, I felt like I always had a chance to prove myself with hard work.”

Chacalias, 1999-born forward from Calgary, AB, had 16 points in 19 games during the 2019-20 campaign with the Ice Wolves.

He started the season with the Melville Millionaires and tallied 11 points in 17 games with the Millionaires before being moved to La Ronge in a blockbuster deal that also saw the Ice Wolves acquire 2000-born defenceman James Philpott. In his first game as an Ice Wolf back on Nov. 1, Chacalias scored three times and added an assist versus his old club.

The SJHL playoffs were cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Chacalias made the most of the post-season, recording two goals and two assists.

“I enjoyed my time as an Ice Wolf and I am grateful for my experiences and time in La Ronge,” said Chacalias. “I am excited to continue pursuing my goal, playing hockey at the collegiate level for Plymouth State University! The support and encouragement I received during my time in La Ronge made my dream of playing for a college hockey team become a reality.”

Prior to coming to La Ronge, Chacalias spent the 2018-19 season with the Victoria Cougars in the VIJHL and he recorded 69 points in 44 games.

Chacalias is the fourth member of the Ice Wolves to commit to a post-secondary institution for the 2020-21 hockey season.
