The SJHL recently held its bantam draft and league meetings.

SJHL President Bill Chow says the season start date was certainly a topic of conversation.

“We fall under the regulations and the guidelines set out by the Saskatchewan Health Authority, with Hockey Canada, opening up hockey again,” said Chow. “They’ve opened it up, but obviously, we fall under the regulations of the Sask. Health Authority, so once the Sask. Health Authority deems that it’s safe and in a timely fashion that we can restart hockey, then that’s when we’ll restart.”

The post-season was cancelled in March due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Chow says once the season does begin, fans will notice a modification to a faceoff rule.

“The other thing that you’ll see is a procedural change is that when the puck is deflected out of play in the offensive zone, it doesn’t matter who deflects it, the faceoff will stay in the offensive zone,” said Chow.

Meanwhile, SJHL teams continue to prepare for the upcoming campaign by signing players during the extended off-season.
