UPDATED: AUGUST 6, 2020
Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 3 p.m., members from the Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART) recovered the body of six-year-old Lian Thunderchild who disappeared in Makwa Lake on June 23, 2020. The body was located over a kilometre away from where he was last seen.
On behalf of the Saskatchewan RCMP, the Loon Lake Detachment would like to thank all local residents, family members, friends and organizations on the ground, air and on the lake for their dedication in the search.
RCMP have spent the last few days searching Makwa Lake for a missing six-year-old boy.
Police released their first report of the missing child on Wednesday.
Since then, Loon Lake, Pierceland and Meadow Lake RCMP detachments have been working with CASARA, the police dog service from North Battleford and the underwater recovery team as part of an effort to locate the boy.
They have since narrowed their search to the southeast side of the lake.
Loon Lake sits on the southeast shoreline of Makwa Lake.
RCMP spokesperson Jessica Cantos says the RCMP appreciates help from community members.
However, Mounties are asking anyone who wants to help to contact the Loon Lake detachment first.
All other residents are being advised to avoid the area.
