The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency says high-risk members of the James Smith Cree Nation are being evacuated due to an uncontrolled wildfire burning in the Fort a la Corne area.

SPSA says the fire is currently about 5,300 hectares in size and the James Smith residents have been evacuated as a safety precaution due to smoke inhalation concerns.

The fire is being attended to by ground crews, helicopters, air tankers and dozers.

The nearby Rio Tinto diamond mine project is also monitoring the situation.

The Fort a la Corne area is located about 67 kilometres east of Prince Albert.
