COVID-19 has virtually shut down every sport across the globe.

For young football players in northern Saskatchewan, a popular camp featuring members of the Saskatchewan Roughriders is in jeopardy.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders Northern Football Jamboree is scheduled for May 8-9 in La Ronge.

“I see that the training camp for the CFL has been delayed, so I think it is just a matter of time that we announce some changes,” said Mark Williment, who is with the Northern Saskatchewan Football League.

The CFL officially postponed the start of its season on Tuesday.

Meantime, Williment also says the Roughriders made a donation to football in northern Saskatchewan this year.

“They’ve (the Saskatchewan Roughriders) been a great supporter of northern football,” said Williment. “They’ve donated about 300 or 400 footballs that need to be distributed once the virus is over with.”

Members of the Riders have made their way to La Ronge for the past couple years to instruct young football players at the Saskatchewan Roughriders Northern Football Jamboree.
