The La Ronge Ice Wolves bantam hockey team kicks off provincial playoffs Friday night at home.

The Ice Wolves will welcome the Humboldt Broncos to town in game one of a two-game total-point bantam B series.

Curtis Skalicky is the assistant coach for the Ice Wolves and says they have not played this Humboldt squad before.

“We’re kind of hoping to do a bit of googling and see what’s going down there,” said Skalicky. “It’s kind of ironic because next week, they (Humboldt) are going to be in a Prince Albert tournament the same time we are. Unfortunately, that’s not going to do us any good here this Friday night.”

Skalicky also says they would like to see a nice crowd at the game.

“You know what? I think any kid who is playing hockey would love to have anybody come out,” said Skalicky. “The Mel Hegland is very, very loud when we get a full crowd here, so hopefully we can pack the Plex and get some people out, making lots of noise for our team.”

Friday night’s contest between La Ronge and Humboldt takes place at the Mel Hegland Uniplex in La Ronge, with puck drop slated for 7:30 p.m.
