Longtime SJHL official Bruce Skilliter is hanging up his skates.

Skilliter, who is a linesman, worked his last game on Friday in La Ronge when the Ice Wolves took on the Humboldt Broncos.

“I’m getting slower and I don’t need to get hurt or anything,” said Bruce Skilliter. “It’s time, for sure. This is the perfect way to do it.”

Skilliter, who is 60, says he started in the SJHL while living in Kindersley in 1993.

Bruce finished out the game with his son Graham on the ice Friday. Graham is a referee in the NHL and was inserted into the game late.

“I was a little bit nervous, I haven’t linesed a hockey game in at least probably 15 years. I was a little bit nervous going out there. One thing is, I know the rules and it took me a second a couple times, I was definitely the referee,” said Graham Skilliter. “It was really cool to be out there with him and he didn’t even realize it was me actually until about halfway when I was out there, so it was good.”

Bruce Skilliter says he plans to stay involved with hockey as an off-ice official.
