The La Ronge Ice Wolves are getting set for their annual sportsman’s dinner next weekend.

The event will feature former NHLers Jeff Odgers and Curtis Leschyshyn.

Leschyshyn won a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche and played over 1,000 games in the NHL with Quebec, Colorado, Washington, Hartford, Carolina, Minnesota and Ottawa.

Odgers is a veteran of 821 games in the NHL with San Jose, Boston, Colorado and Atlanta.

“Back when I played, the game was obviously played a little bit different, so I got some stories about how I made my way in the NHL and kind of the things I went through to get there,” said Odgers when asked what type of stories he will share. “Key stories along the way, a few players that I got to play with and against. Probably throw in the odd fight story.”

The dinner is part of parents’ weekend and will begin at 6 p.m. on Nov. 16 at the JRMCC. The festivities start Nov. 14 at home when the Ice Wolves host the Notre Dame Hounds. Following the game, comedian Kelly Taylor will perform. La Ronge is set to take on Humboldt next Friday night and next Saturday afternoon at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.

The dinner is a big fundraiser for the Ice Wolves, who rely on events like this to keep the team afloat.

“I think the board here does an unbelievable job with all the fundraisers that we do. I think this is a really big one to keep us going,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Kevin Kaminski.

Meantime, the Ice Wolves are back in action Friday at home when they entertain the Kindersley Klippers at the Mel. The puck is slated to drop at 7:30 p.m. La Ronge will be searching for its third straight win after scoring victories over Melville and Humboldt this past weekend.

The Ice Wolves will finish their weekend Saturday on home ice against Kindersley in the conclusion of the two-game series in northern Saskatchewan.
