Two champions will be crowned this weekend in Prince Albert as the playoffs come to a close in the Northern Saskatchewan Football League.

The tier one finale has the Cumberland House Islanders clashing with the Creighton Kodiaks. The Islanders, who will go for their third straight perfect season, went 4-0 during the regular season. The Kodiaks posted a 3-1 mark.

Kodiaks Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk says stopping the run will be key.

“We know Cumberland likes to run the ball, they have a really good running back, he led the league in scoring,” said Karakochuk. “We’ll be prepared for him, we saw him once already. We learned a lot from that game. We’ve watched the film and we’ve had a great week of practice, so I think we’re ready to go.”

The tier two final sees the Ahtahkakoop Titans meeting up with the Senator Myles Venne Huskies. The Titans were undefeated with a 4-0 record during the regular season, while the Huskies went 1-3.

Huskies Head Coach Steve Aldridge says they are placing a priority on playing solid defensively.

“Our defence needs to play strong, as it has been,” Aldridge. “We need to be able to read what their offence is doing. The key to our success is our defence.”

Meantime, both games on Saturday shake down at the Max Clunie Field in Prince Albert.

The tier two final gets underway at 12 p.m. and the tier one final is slated for 3 p.m.
