Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty has been named as the first honourary patron of the Victoria Hospital Foundation in Prince Albert.

Mirasty will serve as an ambassador for the foundation in his new role in the hopes of increasing financial donations.

Foundation board chair Lyle Karasiuk said Mirasty is a natural fit for the role.

“We will be able to use his honour in many official and unofficial capacities to certainly speak about healthcare which is important to our northern residents,” he said. “The model for the Victoria Hospital Foundation is advancing northern healthcare.”

Karasiuk added the Lieutenant Governor’s presence can only serve to enhance the foundation’s northern partnerships.

Mirasty, a member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, was officially installed as lieutenant governor last week.

He is the first Indigenous person to serve in the role.
