The NDP has nominated a women of Cree- Métis descent to run for the party in the Prince Albert constituency in the upcoming federal election.

Harmony Johnson-Harder has a long history of community involvement which includes working at the Kikinahk Friendship Centre in La Ronge.

She currently works as a community developer and facilitator in the Prince Albert area.

Johnson-Harder said she believes her past employment experience will help her in the campaign.

“My feet are on the ground,” she said. “I have first hand experience working with people, understanding their issues, through conversation and relationship building and I bring their stories with me.”

She said she thinks some of the key issues in the campaign will be climate change, reconciliation, healthcare and housing.

Johnson-Harder also said she believes being a lifelong resident of north-central Saskatchewan will help her in the election because she is familiar with the concerns of local residents.

Conservative MP Randy Hoback has been the incumbent for the Prince Albert riding since 2008.

Voters go to the polls on Oct. 21.
