The Western College of Veterinary Medicine will be holding a mobile veterinarian clinic for three days in La Ronge in September.

“What we will do when we are there is provide onsite veterinary services, but we also do a lot of community engagement,” Dr. Jordan Woodsworth, clinical associate in wellness at the college said.

“We can get people thinking more about how to keep their pets healthy when we’re not there. We provide sterilization surgeries. We also do vet checks and we provide vaccines and parasite control and we can usually manage minor ailments.”

The college is planning for as many as 80 vet checks and an additional 80 sterilization surgery appointments for dogs and cats.

“The reality is we need more programs like this,” Woodsworth adds. “We probably have at least 50 or 60 registrations and we’ve still got space so folks can continue to send in registration forms. People can either fax or email those in to us.”

Woodsworth says around 100 volunteers are coming from out of town to help with the event and the college plans to continue holding clinics in La Ronge for years to come.

The Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre is hosting the clinic Sept. 6-8.
