The Lac La Ronge Indian Band Rookie Softball/Baseball League finishes up its season this weekend with a final tournament.

La Ronge, Stanley Mission, Sucker River, Little Red River, Grandmother’s Bay and Hall Lake are the communities that participate in the league.

This year, the league has joined forces with the Toronto Blue Jays Care Foundation.

“We’ve been working with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band for the last year now, they are partnering with us to run a Rookie League program,” said Matthew Judd, the senior programs manager with the Jays Care Foundation.

“Rookie League is a partnership between Jays Care and different Indigenous communities across the country to host a baseball league, where the goal of it is to bring out the community, get the community engaged and just sort of bring together the spirit of baseball in the community of La Ronge.”

The final tournament is scheduled to take place on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Air Ronge at the diamonds behind Cravings.
