A 45-year-old man from Kelliher has been arrested after the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations and Melville RCMP received complaints that he made racist comments and threats on Facebook and claimed to be an RCMP officer.

Patrick Kuhns was arrested on Thursday and charged with uttering threats and impersonating a peace officer.

The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is applauding the arrest.

“We are thankful that the RCMP took these threats seriously and acted swiftly with promptly laying charges against this individual,” FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron said.

“Racism can never be tolerated and our communities have to work together to combat these incidences. Education is needed, now more than ever in Saskatchewan, including these rural communities. We are calling on the provincial government to sit down with us, work with us and fight racism in Saskatchewan. Our children and grandchildren have to live in this world together. We must do our best to ensure they have a brighter future filled with mutual respect and cooperation.”

Kuhns has been scheduled to appear in court in Melville on Sept. 16.
