Several Facebook posts by family members list Lucien Silverquill as the person fatally shot by RCMP during a confrontation Tuesday afternoon on the Fishing Lake First Nation.

At approximately 1:30 PM two officers from the Wadena detachment were called to a home on there on a disturbance complaint and that a man was armed with a knife.

Police said the caller and Silverquill were known to each other and he was outside the home.

Mounties said after locating Silverquill at the home, at least one officer discharged their firearm, wounding him.

Police said the officers performed first aid until EMS arrived, but Silverquill died at the scene.

As per protocol, the RCMP has requested the Moose Jaw Police Service investigate the incident and has asked the province for oversight.

RCMP said it will not be making any further comment.
