The La Ronge Ice Wolves have signed 19-year-old goalie Ryan Baker for the 2019-20 SJHL season.

Baker is from Calgary, AB and played last season in the KIJHL with the Golden Rockets. In 35 regular season games, Baker recorded a 3.16 GAA and .906 save percentage.

Baker appeared in two games for the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League during the 2017-18 season.

“Coming down from the Junior A level, playing Junior B the year after, it was a little bit of a struggle at first, but with good teammates, good coaches, great city, it was easy to adjust,” said Baker. “I thought I had a great year, same with the whole team as well.”

Baker describes himself as a calm goalie who likes to play the puck a lot. He adds that he likes to watch and model his game after Marc-Andre Fleury of the Vegas Golden Knights.

The 19-year-old says it is his goal to be the starter for the Ice Wolves.

“That’s the plan anywhere for any goalie wherever they go – is to always earn that spot, win that number one position,” said Baker.

In 16 games with the CRAA Gold Midget AA team in Calgary during the 2016-17 season, Baker posted a 2.22 GAA and .932 save percentage.
