The La Ronge Ice Wolves have completed a big trade with the AJHL’s Sherwood Park Crusaders.

The Ice Wolves have shipped 2000-born goalie Jordan Frey to Sherwood Park in exchange for 2000-born defenceman Michael Bentz and a player development fee.

“I thought for ourselves, it was an opportunity to get a very solid defenceman,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Kevin Kaminski. “I wasn’t planning on it (making the trade), but I think it worked out great for both sides.”

Bentz is heading into his third season of junior hockey. In 55 games this past season with Sherwood Park, the Lloydminster, SK product tallied 18 points and added 87 penalty minutes.

Frey spent the past two seasons with the Ice Wolves. In 32 games last season, the Saskatoon product posted a 4.46 GAA and .901 save percentage.

“I was initially surprised, but I am very excited to join such a prestigious organization,” said Jordan Frey in a news release. “Fans should expect a guy who never gives up on plays, and does whatever it takes to win.”

Meantime, the Ice Wolves are slated to open the regular season Sept. 13 in Flin Flon versus the Bombers.
