An RCMP officer has been arrested and charged with assault after a complaint received in the community of Wollaston Lake.

Mounties say the incident happened at a home in the community on the evening of May 20th.

Corporal Luay Toma was off-duty at the time.

He was placed on administrative duties and a criminal investigation was started.

On May 30th Toma was charged with one Criminal Code charge of assault.

He is now the subject of an internal RCMP Code of Conduct investigation and has been suspended with pay.

Toma will make his first appearance in Wollaston Lake Provincial Court on July 10.
