The Prince Albert Grand Council Women’s Commission is putting on the 15th annual Honouring our Sisters and Brothers Memorial Walk Thursday.

“We wanted to bring awareness about how serious it is for missing and murdered women and then families were talking to us about the men that were missing too so we changed our walk to honour sisters and brothers,” Prince Albert Grand Council Women’s Commission chairperson Shirley Henderson says. “The men are just as important as the woman. We started 15 years ago so I don’t know when we changed it to involve the men. The main purpose is to bring families together that have lost loved ones.”

The opening ceremonies are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at Prince Albert city hall.

“We have people coming from all over the province,” Henderson adds. “This year we are having people come from Yorkton, Regina and North Battleford. We’ve had full participation right from our first year.”

She says around 150 to 200 people are expected to attend the event.

The walk concludes at the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre gym.
