The North East Minor Hockey League will have a team from northern Saskatchewan playing in the midget division this coming season.

The La Ronge 89ers will be part of the league for the 2019-20 campaign. Kevin Roberts is the director of sports and recreation for the JRMCC, he says joining the league will benefit the kids.

“Just to give kids more playing time, more opportunity to play the game, really,” said Roberts. “They are limited right now to just tournament play.”

Roberts also says players from all over the La Ronge region can join the team.

“We’re drawing from not just La Ronge, Lac La Ronge and Air Ronge – we will have players out of Stanley (Mission) be a part of our team,” said Roberts. “Our numbers are healthy in terms of midget players that we’ve considered.”

The 89’ers midget team will only play road games.
