Team North dropped a 30-7 decision to Team South in the nine-aside football game at the Senior Bowl in Regina Sunday.

Eric Choquette, Justin McKerracher, Solomon Groves, Luke Hepworth, Hayden Penney and Tim Zelensky represented the La Ronge Churchill Chargers on the field for the northern squad.

Coaches Gabe Andrews and Nate Shaw were also part of the northern contingent.

“You could tell, not having played football for a number of months since the fall, there were a few minor hiccups,” said Andrews. “Overall, instincts kicked in and there were some nice catches. Solomon Groves made a nice catch in the second half for a big gain.”

The game took place on Sunday afternoon at Mosaic Stadium, which is the home of the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders.

“The first practice on Friday, you walk in and it’s pretty overwhelming, but then when it comes down to practice time and the fundamentals, and working through the schemes, you kind of forget where you are, and you have to take a minute and look around, and relish the moment,” said Andrews.

“Same thing in the game right? I could really appreciate it during warmups – watching the guys get warmed up. As soon as that kickoff goes, you are in game mode.”

Meantime, the Chargers will get set for the next season of high school football when they host a spring camp next month.
